A Plea for My State

This video becomes somewhat partisan at the end, but the message is very important.  I think my strong views on public education are based on my North Carolina heritage. My mother, of course, is a teacher from North Carolina, but so are generations of my family before her.  My mother’s genealogical records include the hand-written account of Alexander McIntosh, one of our great-great grandparents who operated a school in North Carolina.  He wrote of the difficulties and rewards of operating a school in post-Civil War North Carolina.  I can’t understate how strongly I feel about the issue of public education, and I know that the strong tradition of public education in North Carolina has much to do with my feelings on the matter.
